Application and Certification
To become a tutor listed on our website, tutors first apply (application coming soon). Application, membership, and publishing of tutor profiles are free. Tutors can talk to students by intranet using our website for free but students must first become a member to communicate independently. Tutors can receive payments independent of Tutor Stars or they can request that we take purchases for them. We recommend offering "advanced purchase discounts" but it is entirely up to you. We charge a small fee for taking purchases for you.
Tutors can become Broker to sell student memberships but to do so they must purchase a student membership. Students pay $19, $29, or $39 per month to become members.
After tutors apply, they login to their accounts to begin taking subject certification test: 10-20 questions per subject. Tutors cannot tutor a subject unless they are certifed. Tutors must also complete a General Certification program. Below is a list of recommended programs but they can be expensive. Therefore, you can take our General Certification program for free, and we welcome your input. A study skills evalution is included with our free program.
Background checks may be purchased by tutors for $15 or by your students. Tutors who pass their background check will get a logo added to their profile.
Tutors may provided references from current or former students or from fellow tutors who know them personally.
Tutor applications will be reviewed by our Tutor Evaluation Committee, a small panel of expert tutors. Tutors may request to be part of this panel though it is not a paid position.
Along with the application, tutors must provide 3 sample test questions for each subject they intend to certify in. These questions will be used to evaluate creativity, mastery of the subjects, and to evaluate and certify future applicants, so please make them challenging/mutliple choice questions.
